All the plastic miniatures are almost ready (just the space marine tactical squad remains to be assembled).
The dreadnought has been customized with two Dark Angel banners and a book at the front hull.
And a Dark angel symbol on the power globe arm.
I've assembled the 10-man Dark Angels veteran squad.
Once painted, they are going to look really great, the pieces are fantastic.
I've got dozens of miniatures to paint apart from the space marines... 40 2nd edition plastic gretchins, 15 2nd edition plastic orcs, 20 5th edition orcs + 6 ork nobz + the commander + 3 kopters, and around 20 genestealers + 8 hybrids!!!
Apart from the assembly work, last weekend I played my first 5th edition game with my friend Lobo666!
We played a very small, tutorial like battle, with a 10-man space marine squad (tactical, all ten units with bolters to simplify the rules) versus two 10-orc boyz squads.
Lobo666 hasn't played Warhammer 40.000 since even more time than me, so we both learned the basic movement-shoot-assault rules. The game is fluid once you get the basics, but I see two tiny problems:
Sadly, I had very bad luck with my rolls and my marines ended killed by the orcs :(
I'm doing a lot of research related to the 5th edition, I've started creating a new list on the right sidebar with links (well, right now only two xD) to WH 40k sites I've thought of high interest.
I hope that the next post will be something like "I've finished assembling the troops!" ;)

I'm yet starting to assemble all the miniatures. I started with the game counters and damage areas before getting with the actual miniatures.
After finishing with it, I've assembled the Terminator squad, modding a bit all five members with pieces from the Dark Angels component matrix, to give it a proper Deathwing look. I've
Two of them have assault cannons too (I've got lots of standard bolter-armed Terminators).
Also, already having Azrael as the commanding unit (although not yet fully painted :P), the space marine captain will be used for low point battles, to make things more even.
I added to him a hanging dark angel symbol to his sword, and changed the banner's symbol to a dark angel.
I'm half-way through reading the rules too. Since the 2nd edition and from what I can remember (it's been a loong time), the game's available actions, options and diversity has expanded, but at the same time, some rules have been either simplified or "streamlined" (adapted to other rules to be more alike). I have to buy batteries for my laser pointer because I'm not playing with "real line of sight" unless using a laser pointer (to avoid disagreement between players).

At last!!! The spanish version of Assault on Black Reach is mine! :D
I've just started reading the rules and assembling the miniatures, but I'm not in a hurry now!
Apart from the basic box, I've bought a counter set (pretty and cheap for marking statuses, objectives and vehicle speeds, and a Dark Angels components matrix (curiously, it is not only cheaper than the Dark Angels Veteran Marines, but also contains twice the pieces/models!). With them I can build a veteran squad and customize some of the "default" space marines that come in the box.
For this month probably is enough (assembling and starting to paint all this miniatures is a long task), next month I'll probably buy more paints and maybe a miniature or two to enlarge the Orc army.

Its been nearly 13 years. 13 years since I evolved from playing Space Crusade to finding the full Warhammer 40.000 universe.
Years without painting nor using miniatures to play mighty battles.
Years without improving my Dark Angels Space Marine army.
But it is time to go back, to return to roots. To enjoy painting and that feeling of disconnection, of calm and peace I used to have when I was younger...
I've ordered the fifth edition of the game, the boxed set with miniatures. With them, I will probably have points for something around a 5.000 points Space Marine army (way too big for normal battles ;) and almost enough orks for a decent Ork army (I will probably buy a few more miniatures to have a full army).
I've already got some basic Citadel paints, brushes, cutters and glues to start painting again.
I've got new work to do (more than 50 new miniatures to paint)...
And old work to finish (at least two scuadrons and the commander of my space marine army, and most of the orcs from the second boxed edition of the game!).
But I'm thinking also of starting a new army (a third one, counting the orcs as the second), I don't know if a Tyranid army (I got lots of genestealers) or an Eldar one (I love the miniatures, Falcons and Dreadnoughts). Difficult choice... any comments?
Note: I've got some old posts pending to be written, with logs of more roleplaying sessions. I promise to do it ASAP!
I've been quite busy lately, with my change of job, some "hardware work" on my house and having small holidays. But now that everything is getting normal again, I hope to be back posting frecuently.
This past weeks I've been reading a lot of comic books, some old ones I already had, some bought either in comic stores or in my small trip to Barcelona.
The three most interesting comic books I've read are this:
A world in which mouses live in a medieval society in hidden cities, guarded from cats and other dangers. A group of guardians, seeking trails of a traitor. A DnD-like adventure, with beautiful drawings.
It was a bit short but I liked it anyway.
Warhammer 40.000: Damnation Crusade
My first introduction to Warhammer 40k novels, in this case a graphic novel. It narrates some battles of the Dark Templars Space Marine Chapter against Orcs and Chaos (mostly, few other races appear).
Drawings are ok (but not incredible), but it reminded me of my childhood painting my Dark Angels miniatures. Narrative is "a-la-Warhammer 40k", super-humans blindly fighting for the Emperor with unbreakable faith and courage.
Comic book adaptation of the great novel. I was impressed of how exact text were. Drawings are in black&white but not bad, and help to transmit the fear and hopeless atmosphere of the story.
Recommended if you liked the novel.
Also, this weekend I took from my mother's house my old Gameboy and all the games I had with it. Among them, was one RPG I started but never finished, The Sword of Hope.
The game is a typical turn based, static screen RPG, with battles like Final Fantasy games. Story is typical, enemies are typical and battles are (typically) a bit too often and boring; You either die almost 100% sure or crush the enemies, depending on your level.
The interesting part is, being as limited as the original gameboy was, how developers put on the game a full RPG. I'm finishing it to see how big it is, but right now this are my thoughts:
Here are some screenshots:
As I said, the game is a bit limited, but excepting the tiring leveling up, fun to play.
Extra: Just released, the Wow Talent Calculator for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion
