Comic: Alien vs Predator: War

Cover

Alien versus Predator: War, tells the story of how Machiko Noguchi, a skilled human female who helped a Predator fighting Aliens in the past, becomes a member of a Predator clan, being taught their rules, behaviours and above all, honor and pride system.

The predators have captured an Alien queen to infect planets and then hunt the aliens, but the planet also contains humans and Machiko will have to choose.

Quite good comic, instead of the crappy movies this comic contains a lot more lore, hindsights on how Predators behave, hints at why there might be Aliens in some planets...

Definetly recommended if you enjoy AvP series.

Comic: Warhammer 40,000: Fire & Honour

Comic cover

I recently got two second hand comics, one of them being Fire & Honour, which narrates the adventures of the Cadian 71st Imperial Guard company fighting against the Tau in a planet where the Governor is a traitor (allied with the Tau).

The drawings are quite nice, very well colored and vibrant (despite depicting scenes of war and battle). Here what fails is not the drawing skills but the writing skills. The texts are typical hard-ass soldier speeches, cocky comments and drill sargeant orders, all around a weak, plain and obvious story which doesn't even tries to make itself interesting.

Nice for reading once but much better to grab a Black Library book if you want a good plot.

Comic: Game Keeper

Cover

Game Keeper is a short comic compilation (also available in hardcover, at least a while ago) who's main advertising is that comes from the acclaimed director Guy Ritchie.

The main character is Brock, a forest guard and hunter, who finds a youngster in the woods, and that same night a fire breaks in the barn of the house where he lives, serving an old friend. Mercenaries appear and kill his friend, stealing some secret but important papers. Our character will go hunt whoever did the killing.

The comic is good, with nice drawings, but feels quite short. The pacing is well done, with flashbacks telling more about the past of Brock and his scars.

For a movie might be enough, but for a comic it appears to end too quickly, leaving you desiring for more. Apart from that, recommended if you like action comics.

Comic: Alien Versus Predator - Three World War

cover

A colony gets attacked by "different" Predators, ones who attack everybody, enjoy pure killing (not hunting) and are able to control Aliens. Marines contact the only human who has spent time along with Predators, so that she not only helps them but tries to forge an alliance with the hunting Predators against this killers breed.

With this plot AVP Three World War delivers an exciting journey, along which we will learn more about the tribal rituals, code of honor and behaviour of traditional Predators, watch lots of action and in general have a good time with this clash of monsters.

One of those comics that goes out of the traditional safe path to offer a good story without destroying the existing lore of the alien species. Recommended if you are a fan of AvP.

Comic: Deff Skwadron

comic cover

Deff Skwadron has just been reedited after quite some years out of print. It is a black & white short stories comic depicting an elite squadron of ork pilots and their adventures fighting against another ork warboss.

It is quite hilarious, both in the situations that happen and in the way the orks act and speak. You can feel it is old, when Games Workshop didn't made the orks too serious and almost everything related with the greenskins was humorous.

The drawings are very nice too, and everything is depicted accordingly to the Warhammer 40,000 setting. It feels a bit short, but because you enjoy reading it and you desire more.

I had some good laughts while reading it, if you like the orks definetly recommended.

Thanks to Agramar for his original post talking about this comic, I didn't even knew it existed!
